Water Front Lifeguard Class
This American Red Cross course will teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies in a pool environment as well as at a waterfront environment (i.e. lakes and rivers) To enroll, you must be 15 years old by the end of the course. You must be able to demonstrate: 550 yd swim – 200 yd front crawl using rhythmic breathing and propellant kick, 200 yd breaststroke with pull breathe kick glide motions, 150 yd either or in combination front crawl and breaststroke. You must also swim 20 yd, surface dive and retrieve and 10 lbs object, surface and swim the object back to the starting point and exit the water with out using a ladder or steps, all in 1 minute and 40 seconds. For the final pre-requisite skill you must swim 5 yd, submerge and retrieve 3 diving rings that are placed 5 yards apart in 4-7 feet of water, surface and swim to the side of the pool. Basic Water Rescue
This course will prepare individuals for aquatic emergencies by teaching them how to protect themselves while assisting others. It will also provide individuals such as public safety personnel, aquatic fitness instructors and aquatic therapists, with information and skills necessary to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. Just in time for the Dragon Boat races.
